    Went here for lunch with a few friends on a whim. None of us had been here so we decided to try it out. The age old saying of "don't judge a book by it's cover" applies to this pub. There's nothing fancy about the inside or outside, but the service and food was top notch. Our server remembered our complicated order without writing it down and could describe the taste of every beer we asked about. This woman knew her shit. The burger I had was cooked to perfection and came with hands down the best cole slaw I have ever had! This is a hole in the wall place that's absolutely worth checking out.

    Went to the West End Grill and Pub tonight for the first time in several years and it was an all around fantastic experience. The food was delicious. We had the hummus and the mussels in green curry sauce, which were exceptional. My mom took the sauce the mussels came in home with her, it was that good. I had the chicken under a brick as my entree, which was expertly cooked and seasoned. It came over a bed of cornbread stuffing and green beans with a whiskey pan sauce on top. Good stuff. Atmosphere was pleasant and our server was attentive with a lovely genuine personality. I just found out they have brunch and I will definitely be back as I am a breakfast addict. Overall great experience, I'd recommend WEGAP before a show at the Gaslight Theatre next door or anytime. The bar is also nice, I don't personally drink but it seems like a great neighborhood place to sit and have a beer too.

    I wasn't expecting much as I thought it would be bar food, but I was quite pleasantly surprised! My Chef's burger and my boyfriend's steak sandwich were delicious! The slaw is unique and yummy too!

    We go to this place because of course the great food but the atmosphere is awesome. The food is great and if your thing is mussels then you wont find a better place in the city for the money. I guess people in the area cant know much about this place because there is never a wait and there should be because of the quality of food you get here. The prices are great which makes this place even better. I would suggest that you check it out and see what your missing

    Went to lunch at WEGAP expecting a decent lunch, however, that didn't turn out to be the case. We ordered the Hummus which was made in house and was actually very good. For our entree, I ordered the grilled vegetable sandwich with a side salad. The vegetables were tasty but def. NOT grilled. They had obviously been thrown into a skillet (or similar kitchen item) with a lot of oil. My sandwich was literally soaking in grease. My side salad was general bagged lettuce with ranch. The lettuce was wilted and old. When I told the waitress that I thought the lettuce looked old she removed the salad but we could hear the cook complaining that I sent the salad back. I felt bad because this was only the third time in my life I have ever sent food back. My mother ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Again, it didn't appear grilled and her bread fell apart from the grease soaking through the bread. Our waitress was extremely polite and attentive even when she was tending to a full bar. Seems like a place I would come grab a beer but I will never eat there again.

    After eating dinner, brunch, and a having a few beers at WEGAP, I suppose it's finally time to write this... I've only just begun going to WEGAP, so I'm not certain how often they rotate their selection of beer, but it's currently pretty good. The steak sandwich has horse radish on it and it's just grand. The brunch is quite good as well. $4.00 Mimosas until 3:00pm!! The owner is friendly as is the rest of the staff. Its location is nice for sitting outside as the road isn't too busy.

    This place is a gem. Went for dinner during happy hour. They had some intriguing happy hour dishes for people who sat at the bar. We sat at a table. Fine service. I followed the advice on Yelp and ordered the pear salad....which is called Rocket Salad on the menu...and it was wonderful. Had a nice vegan soup. Another person at the table raved about his chicken under a brick. I saw a number of items on the menu that I would like to come back and try.

    What a cool little spot in CWE. They serve some pretty good food at decent prices. I tried the Brick Chicken... with some trepidation. The Brick Chicken at Taste is one of my all time favorite meals and I was skeptical that anyone would come close. West End's version was a little more country with stuffing and a bourbon glaze... but it was really, really good. Service was good. Ambiance was nice. My only complaint was that the tables are very close together. Our 4 top next to the wall was a little uncomfortable.

    I was expecting big things from the green curry mussels but in no way was I prepared for their amazingness. Oh. my. god! Mindblowingly good. A very good dose of real heat and so much flavor. I recommend filling the mussel shell with broth and slurping it out along with the mussel. Also got a burger that was really good, properly cooked as requested, and well-priced, Came with some tasty fries. PROTIP: Take a french fry and let it soak in the green curry broth for about 10 seconds. You're welcome. The rocket/pear/gorgonzola/candied pistachios salad also hit home. Great combination of flavors. Combine the great food with a nice cozy atmosphere and well thought-out music and you have a 5-star experience. Our server chick did a great job. The place was pretty packed at 7:15 on a Thursday, so reservations could be a good idea. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back,

    Some friends and I had dinner at the WEGAP before a show. The drinks were strong and good. I had a chef burger medium rare and it was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for a quick bite and a good drink.

    Went here once and won't go back. First we were seated quickly but under an air vent, where cold air was blowing and there seemed to be some dust accumulating. We asked nicely if we could move because of the draft making us cold (the place had tons of empty tables) and our server kind of rolled her eyes and said rudely "Okay, I guess I could walk around and see if I find a spot that's warmer" but obviously she was being sarcastic. Ugh. They did turn off the vent, though, and we thanked them. Service was slow after that. I ordered the veggie dagwood sandwich and it was oily, messy, and though it was not a hot sandwich, the roasted bell peppers were ICE cold and soggy. For the price, it was awful. I wouldn't go back.

    If you're a wine drinker, this place is for you. Great wine selection. Expect to spend some money. It's a nice, cozy place to eat and have a couple of drinks. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The pinot grigio The Crossing New Zealand 2011 is an excellent choice of white wine.

    I love when my parents come to town. Yes, of course I love seeing them and hanging out but I also love that they take me out to eat. I was taken here for a dinner interview a few months ago when I was trying to decide if I'd be willing to move away from the East Coast. I was impressed with the quality of food then and I was again last weekend with my folks. We started with the mussels which were very very good. Steamed perfectly and seasoned with just the right amount of curry spice. For the main meal my dad and I each got the Sonoma Steak (I had the flash fried leek garnish removed for happy gluten-free dining) and both of ours were cooked to perfection. Those horseradish mashed potatoes were fantastic. My mom got the Trout and she couldn't stop raving about everything on the plate! We were all happily too stuffed for dessert but there appeared to be nothing a gluten-free girl could eat anyway. My parents liked it so much they wanted to return the next day for dinner but I talked them into trying something else. Needless to say, we will be back on their next visit. I, and the folks, are a fan :-)

    Today, I want to talk to you about the West End Grill and Pub. If you're like me, you probably made a quick assumption about the probable menu of West End based solely on the inclusion of the word "Pub" in its name. This assumption is a grave mistake. In fact, I would be so bold as to say that calling this pub food is the understatement of the year. This pub has a surprisingly gourmet menu. Mussels, salmon, and scallops, oh my! My friend Erika and I stopped by the pub at about four o'clock on a Sunday and we were definitely the first ones to arrive on the scene. Nonetheless, we were greeted friendlily and kindly told to select our own seats; the bartender informed us that dinner wasn't offered until 5 p.m., so we decided to have a drink while we waited. For drinks I ordered a White Cranberry Cosmo Martini and Erika ordered a Bloody Mary. The martini was cute and fruity--but not very strong, sadly. I assume this was because they had used all of the vodka on Erika's Bloody Mary. Whooweee! That sucker was intense. That said, I usually hate Bloody Marys (Maries? Mary's? Whatever). This one, on the other hand, I truly enjoyed. It was spicy and not too tomato-y. Plus, I believe the waitress said that they make the mix in house. I'd recommend it! The drinks were good, but what we all really want to talk about is the food. Here's a little report card: Food: A+ Service: A Décor: B Portion Size: Large Price: $$$ Here's a quick breakdown of the menu we ordered last night. I ordered the Grilled Shrimp (6 jumbo shrimp with a sweet chile glaze and green curry risotto) and a side of brussel sprouts (because the owners raved about them!). Erika ordered the mussels and a candied pear arugula salad. Erika's salad arrived first and she was kind enough to let me try a little taste of it. Yum! The salad was topped with candied pears, roasted pistachios, and blue cheese. What a sweet and salty combination. All of the flavors worked really well together and made for a really light, yet flavorful dish. Next our entrees arrived. I decided to dig into my brussel sprouts first. They were coated in a lemony, buttery glaze and cooked to perfection. Seriously, I was impressed with how well they were cooked; we all know how bad brussel sprouts can be when they're done wrong--but these were done oh-so-right. Slightly crunchy, but still tender and fresh. Yum! Plus, the glaze was light and delicate--they were truly lovely. Boy was I glad that they were light and delicate too because my main dish--the grilled shrimp and curry--was i-n-t-e-n-s-e. Extraordinarily flavorful and spicy, which is my favorite flavor combination, in case you're wondering. I'd actually be so daring as to say that this dish contained an "interesting" combination of flavors. The tangy chile sauce brought both heat and unexpected sweetness to the dish, while the green curry risotto added an almost ethnic twang to the palate. I likened it to a Mongolian dish I once had, where the nearly competing flavors actually balanced each other out. All in all, it had me savoring every bite (and sweating a little bit!). I was also lucky enough to try one or two of Erika's mussels--which came in a heaping mountain sized portion. Now, as most of you know, I am a person who has texture issues with food, but I will usually brave up and try something once, for the sake of the blog. I am so very glad that I tried these--but surprisingly enough, I am not going to rave about the mussels themselves, but instead for the dipping sauce that accompanied them. This savory, garlic-based sauce came by the bowl full and absolutely stole the show. We're talking full-bodied, full of spices, thick and creamy, so-good-that-Erika-took-the-leftover-sauce-home good. If you are a mollusk lover, you need to come try these--just for the sauce. All in all, the eating experience at West End Pub and Grill was one that I would gladly recommend. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, the food was phenomenal (and surprising, for a "pub"), and the price was reasonable for the amount and quality of food we received. I look forward to returning someday soon and trying out the hummus (which we also heard great things about) and the pork chop (which sounded amazing)! Until next time... Happy eating!

    I had the peanut crusted tilapia with sweet Chili glaze. It was very good. It came with curry quinoa with carrots and broccoli. I wasn't a fan of the quinoa because it was too spicy for me.

    Came here for lunch during the week and was not disappointed. I highly recommend the steak sandwich and the fries. The place itself is pretty nice also. They have a full bar, tvs, and a good menu for lunch and dinner. Where else can you go in the cwe and actually find a place to park on the street?

    The boy and I discovered the West End Grill & Pub via my handy dandy Yelp iPhone app -- and ever since then, we can't seem to stay away. We've even made it a destination for our bridal party between the ceremony and reception, coming up in May. Seriously, what's not to love about the West End Grill and Pub? The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly, words that I normally use to describe my favorite South City bars. But unlike those (awesome) hoosier hot spots, the West End Grill & Pub has class and great food, all at an affordable price. Personally, I'm obsessed with the salmon and the lemon-marinated brussel sprouts. The boy, on the other hand, is a little more adventurous -- and always raves about his meal. Oh and they have a "Pub Club" loyalty program that contributes to charity while also providing us with some nice perks. Free brunch? Yes, please! I will say that the appetizers leave a little to be desired...but I'm definitely not complaining -- I just felt like I should say something to tone down this love fest!

    Love this place! Discovered it was so close to my apartment via Groupon and decided to buy the Groupon and go! Best decision ever! Waitstaff: very professional and still friendly. Food: pretty damn good for "pub" food or w/e you wanna call it. I guess it's more of a restaurant that happens to have a bar instead of a bar with a nice restaurant. I've been here about 3-4 times now, and loved each trip. I plan to return for Sunday Brunch one day too. The waitstaff recognized me on my 2nd trip and offered me a frequent customer card. You get special deals like on your birthday or anniversary and they also donate a portion of what you spend to a local charity of your choice! How wonderful. :) My server introduced me to the owners of the establishment on my way out the last time I was there. They were super nice--turns out one of them went to SLU too, so we bonded over that. Prices can be a little high for stuff like steaks but it's really worth it. Great quality of food and service and so close by to SLU and STLCOP. My recommendations: the trout, shrimp tacos (best softshell ever), sonoma steak, any of their salads, chocolate paradise cake w/ raspberry serendipity ice cream, or the peanut butter and banana fried ravioli with coffee ice cream. :) They've excellent wines too.

    I think I'm turning into a regular here. Today I went again for happy hour. Delicious as usual and seriously 1/2 price apps here make me very happy. Don't order the mussels unless you can eat spicy. I eat really spicy food but seriously this dish has a kick to it!

    They earn their 5 stars for value. Seriously a gem in St Louis. Their food is consistently superb, the service is friendly and efficient, and I love their laid-back quiet atmosphere. They continue to come up with interesting specials and their desserts are wonderful, particularly their cobbler. Wine is very reasonably priced. Shoot, the whole meal is also a value.

    So this past Saturday I decided to go for brunch. I ordered the french toast that came with a fruit salad, and potatoes. My plate was full and it was only $6.50!!! The mimosas were $4 each and after two I was feeling fine. I love this place because it's within walking distance and it's always good!

    The peach cobbler demanded I put the 4th star there. OK, lets start with traditionally the best part of every meal first, dessert of course! Their peach cobbler is awesome! I really wasn't sure about this place as when I see "Grill & Pub" I think of bar burgers (which isn't necessarily a bad thing,) smoky rooms, and fried foods. Whatever I thought it would look/be like... I was totally wrong. I did at least call before I went to check if they were non-smoking or if at least it wouldn't be to smoky. I did not notice the smoking at the bar at all, much to my relief. The interior and outside are just oozing with great atmosphere and demands you relax and enjoy yourself. This restaurant is directly connected to the small stage-house next door. And when I say direct I mean the door to the stage seating is right in the dining area. They pull a curtain blocking the door when the play starts. This small traffic adds to the informal atmosphere but it is not distracting enough to disturb your meal. I had the half BBQ chicken and it was OK. The glass of the house Cabernet was good. Did I mention dessert? The peach cobbler was knock your socks off good! Service was also very good and efficient. TLDR: Absolutely worth going to eat and maybe see a play too. The peach cobbler was amazing. It is a little higher end then just a grill and pub.. you will be pleasantly surprised!

    We decided to head over to West End Grill this evening since we had a groupon. We were both very impressed. The decor is very cozy and we felt right at home. I don't remember our server's name, but she was extremely polite and very attentive. We were never left waiting for her to come by to ask for something. As for the food, everything we had was down right delicious. We had the hummus for an app, the pear salad, the sonoma steak, and the 16 ounce pork porterhouse. We both agreed that the porterhouse was slightly better than the steak, but that is not saying the steak was not a good choice. The flavors mixed well with everything on the plate and we stuffed ourselves to finish it all. Overall, this was a great pick for us. It was not busy at all, the food was delicious, and service was great. The only thing they good improve on is maybe a slightly bigger menu. We both agreed though that while their menu is slightly limited, everything they have is done right. We will return!

    Maybe it was an "off" day for them, but I was not impressed with West End at all. It was a Sunday and we went for brunch. Place was pretty much empty in the dining area. Ordered an omelet which was about room temperature when it arrived and just bursting with "blah." Waitress was very friendly, so I'll give that. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews at all, but my first and only experience was a disappointment.

    I should start by saying that this place is not great. I visited this restaurant with my cousin a few weeks back, and we were not impressed. We ordered the stuffed portabello mushroom to split and we weren't impressed. It had a very pickle-like flavor and was about half the size of what the waitress said it'd be. For entrees, I ordered the chicken under the brick, and my cousin ordered the West End Veggie Sandwich; both of which were disappointing. According to her, the sandwich was dry with few vegetables. The fries were good, but the sandwich was not. From what I saw, it looked like lettuce, tomato, and one thin slice of avocado were thrown onto a burnt piece of toast. As far as my chicken under the brick, it was bone-in chicken, which is perfectly fine. However, for the price, the portions are a bit small. In addition to that, I could only eat about half of the piece of chicken I had. Why, you ask? Let me tell you. I tried to cut a piece of chicken, and it looked normal, but when I put it into my mouth, it had this odd rubbery texture, as if it was 140% stiff fat. Seriously, the fat I put into my mouth was like the fat that shows up on women after they get the Depo birth control shot - stiff, non-moving, and hard to get rid of. Needless to say, we were not impressed. The service was pretty good. The bar area was packed, so they probably have good drinks. However, the food just wasn't doing it for me.

    I am adding a bit on their monthly wine dinners- they are a bargain with an abundance of delectable food and well-paired, generous pours. The wine reps that lead are knowledgeable and friendly, and the family-style seating provides great company and interesting conversation. My original review... I frequently come here for dinner, brunch, and the shows, and love all three. The dinner menu has such a great selection of reasonably priced items, and the specials are fantastic! As an app, the mussels are a MUST- the best in St. Louis. Garlicky, spicy, curry goodness with large, plump mussels. Even my BF, not a fan of mussels, will have a couple. I also love to start with the rocket salad, an amazing blend of flavors with pear, gorgonzola, etc. I can't even begin to pick a favorite entree as I rotate too much. Their pasta specials are great, and there is always enough leftover for lunch the next day (yay yummy leftovers!). The salmon is a healthy and delicious choice when I'm going for something on the light side...or, more likely, have some healthy friends with me looking for a recommendation! Their burger is also awesome. Quality meat, good toppings, perfectly cooked, enough said. We recently had family in from California and Wisconsin, and over half the group got burgers and loved every last bite! And the fries...yum...crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Brunch up at the bar watching football or baseball is relaxing. Great deals on mimosas and bloodys, and the bartenders are friendly and fun. I love the unique spin on biscuits and gravy, the gamblers eggs, and even a braunschweiger sandwich as an occasional guilty pleasure! I've noticed a lot of regulars for brunch, and everyone is so nice. I would love to see some brunch specials or new brunch menu items, though. Having the theater attached is a convenient plus. I have spent many a night doing dinner, a play, comedy, burlesque, etc, then bellied up to the bar late night. Fun stuff...check it out!

    When I see the words "grill and pub" in a restaurant's name, they often conjure troubling thoughts of bland menus, faux heritage, and kids-eat-free Tuesdays; you'll find none of that at the West End. A friend and regular hosted a Dining Out for Life dinner here this week, giving me the perfect opportunity to try it out and be guilt-free in my gluttony. It was a nice night for patio dining, but I'm glad we decided to grab a table inside so I could take in the dining room's dark, muted colors and the Gaslight Square-inspired artwork on the walls. We were greeted promptly by both our server and one of the owners, and here I must echo Don W.'s comment about the on-site management -- remember the opening of Mean Streets where Harvey Keitel walks through a bar and seems to know everybody? That's kind of what it felt like watching this guy maneuver around the main dining room on the night I visited. He probably didn't know half of the people in the room, but he treated them all like they'd done time together in Jersey a few years back. Our apps were out in a blink, and the crispy polenta I tried disappeared just as quickly -- possibly the best polenta dish I've ever tasted. The pear salad I had next was a little too tart and sour, but I didn't have to wait long for redemption in the form of a HUGE Ruby Red trout grilled to awesomeness and accompanied by pile of tangy potatoes. A few in our party had to run to a show, so we saved dessert for another time. And speaking of shows, I can't wait to visit again and peek behind the curtain into the neighboring Gaslight Theatre. All-in-all, this was a fantastic experience, and the West End is definitely on my list of the city's top hidden gems.

    Bottom Line: Food is on the border of being too pricey, service was quite good, and the interior was quite comfortable and probably the highlight of the place. Food: I had the house salad, the glazed BBQ chicken with string beans and cornbread stuffing. Out of that lot, the string beans and stuffing ranked highest. The string beans had just the right amount of crunch, which is nice. The stuffing was somewhat sweet, and reminded me of a sweet version of Stove Top, and I like Stove Top. The chicken had a sweet tasting BBQ glaze on there, but I am not sure the chicken was completely done. The poultry had a little chew too it, which worried me. The house salad may have came out wrong, actually. In my salad, I had these large wedges of iceberg lettuce which really are inedible, in my opinion. Looking at the online menu, it looks like my salad should have mixed greens. I wasn't specific on my salad order. I asked for a side salad with house dressing. My bill showed "house salad". No dessert was ordered. Atmosphere: Comfortable chairs, quiet dining room. Decoration consisted of primarily playbills from shows. I did notice what appeared to be a silver serving plate from Gaslight Square; that was a neat piece of Saint Louis nostalgia to see. The bar area seemed a little hectic when I left, but nothing obnoxious. Summary: Overall, I am probably going to come back for the appetizers and/or a burger, i.e. your typical bar food selections. The appetizers here do sound unique and quite appealing, however.

    WEG&P is a perfect example of my belief that hands-on owners make for a much better restaurant. The 5 partners in WEG&P are here all the time and this is reflected in the overall friendliness of the restaurant atmosphere (you're showered in smiles at this place) and the very attentive service. This is a moderately priced bar and grill that aspires to upscale food, and mostly does achieve upscale food. This is a favorite neighborhood spot for many of my friends. I've never had a bad meal here and the daily specials are always pretty good. A couple negatives: I often feel like the regular menu could use a few more items (more than once I've sat there staring and the menu and nothing was calling my name. You know, "Don eat me") and the bar side is way too smokey with many regulars at the bar and tables chain smoking - which is something I expect at Biggies but not here. The smoke often works it's way into the dinning room which is a real drag. WEG&P would do well to go non-smoking early but I don't think that's going to happen. A couple things make WEG&P exceptional. Aside from the upscale menu, they have a small theater attached that runs plays several times a year. The second is that they do amazing monthly multi-course wine dinners that are truly delicious and a great value. I went to one of these last night that was $55 per person. Here is the menu: First Course: Field greens salad with salmon and apple cider vinaigrette pared with "Junehog" Organic White (blended pinot gris, Riesling, chardonnay, gewürztraminer, sauvignon blanc) Second Course: Pork tenderloin medallions with fig and pinot noir sauce paired with an outstanding "Jigsaw" pinot noir from Oregon. Third Course: Creamy wild mushroom risotto paired with an outstanding "Tilda" syrah/grenache blend from Yakima Valley Washington. This was a very earthy wine as in I could smell the soil. Fourth Course: Dijon herb crusted lamb chops with "SNAFU Jus" red blend of petite sirah, cab, merlot, syrah, zinfandel and petite verdot. Also a great wine. Fifth Course: Grilled pineapple with coconut ice cream and dark chocolate shavings paired with "Murphy's Law" white which was another sweetish white blend similar to the first course "Junehog" At $55 this is the best dinner value in town. Every course was great with the risotto and lamb chops being real standouts. It was a great time and I highly recommend these dinners for a fun night out and a great meal.

    I'll give this place another try because the first time my mom and grandparents went they really enjoyed it. But honestly my entree wasn't the absolute best. My mom and I ordered fries for an appetizer (they really are JUST THAT GOOD). And we had shrimp pasta as our meal. It had the opportunity to be good but the cavetappi noodles were very soft and mushy, as were the carrots. The cabbage was crisp, and asperagus was good too. But the dish was just luke warm. The plate was miraculously PIPING hot, but the noodles were chilly... Word to the wise chefs: don't put cold food on hot plates b/c it quickly cools off and I'm left with a cold plate and food:(

    I went to the West End Grill on Sunday with my wife and my friend FDL . This restaurant was very highly recommended by a friend of mine so maybe I walked in with too high of expectations. My friend had told me that the steak sandwich was the best in town. Unfortunately since it was about 1pm on a Sunday they were only serving the brunch menu and the steak sandwich was not available. I ended up with the burger which was good (the fires were excellent). My wife had the chicken sandwich which she enjoyed very much. I had a bite and it was a little too froo froo for me (I am pretty much down on anything that has sprouts. FDL had the BLT which he said was great. FDL also had the Bloody Mary which he also said was wonderful. Service was fine, Ambiance was fine. I do wish there was more separation between the smoking section and the non-smoking as I could smell cigarette smoke while I ate. They did have the heat turned way up which my wife felt made it feel cozy. All in all a good meal. I will try it again when it isn't brunch so I can give the Steak Sandwich a whirl.

    I've been here twice now and on both occasions the wait times were a bit extreme. On the first visit we arrived without reservations, waited over 5 minutes to be seated in a restaurant with one other table and then had the uncomfortable pass off on who was going to wait on us, which led to even more waiting..about 10 minutes to finally place our order. The food was ok, but the crab cakes tasted like fake crab, which I think restaurants should fess up to in the menu. I figured I'd try to keep an open mind about the experience and reserve judgment until after another visit. For our second experience, I made reservations and upon arriving, though we were greeted by several servers who said that someone would be with us shortly, again we waited over 5 minutes to be seated in a restaurant with only two other tables. Service beyond that point was improved from the previous visit, however. Overall, this is one of those places that leaves you wondering how the staff is managing their time. You may see up to 6 staff members in a restaurant with only a couple tables seated and a few people sitting at the bar and yet still wait to be seated, place your order and so on. I don't personally have the patience to return, but if I had to give some advice to the owner and staff it's that first impressions are important. If you are incapable of seating people within a minute of two in a place with only a few customers, you lose credibility at being proficient in what you do. Seating people in a timely fashion costs 30 seconds at best. Creating a bad first impression can cost an eternity.

    West End Grill is a new favorite of mine, albeit a confusing one. I've been here a few times in the last two weeks, and every time I'm left with the same confused feeling. Luckily, their food is, overall, very good, and ridiculously cheap. The lady and I went there this past Friday, and for appetizer, salad, entrees, two cocktails and a bottle of wine, it was only $80--there are very few places in this city that you can get food that decent for that little. Anyway, to the confusion. The place overall has a very warm vibe. Lots of blacks and dark woods, balloon-like Riedel glasses, the word "Culture" in their tag line, and... paper napkins? Seriously, I understand what you're going for--you want to be classy, but not snooty; special, but approachable--that's great, and kudos to you for basically pulling it off, but it's off-putting to me to see not only a paper napkin on my table, but a stark white paper napkin amongst all that dark "Culture." It made me want to order a No. 6, super-sized. The service is weird because everyone is very friendly and charismatic, leaving you feeling like you've had the best service in the world. But then you notice that your water glass hasn't been filled in 30 minutes. And the last time, you had to ask, too. And you had to ask twice for a cocktail. And there's only four tables in the entire restaurant, so busyness isn't the reason. Overall, the service just isn't there. It's like they hired great people, but sub-par servers/bartenders. The only problem is, I don't know which I'd rather have if I had to choose: good person/bad server, or bad person/good server. The answer seems obvious, until you realize that you're not picking out a friend, you're wanting a good time, and you're willing to pay for it. I've literally tried over twelve dishes in the last two weeks (don't ask, but I told you it's one of my new faves) and there seems to be a weird pattern at West End Grill--the entrees are solid, but the sides are uninspired/unimpressive. The only exception was the bad ass brussels sprouts that accompanied the Salmon. It's not that they were bad, it's just that I expected more skill and thought in their pairings--especially after seeing exactly what they could do with their entrees. And speaking of which, West End Grill knows how to do fish. Their Salmon is awesome, and their Trout is solid. Also, I agree with everyone else on here that said the PPB&J is baller, because it is. Congratulations, you're all geniuses. Overall, West End is a really good restaurant that has ridiculously low prices. There are some problems with it, but nothing that can't be overlooked by one more bottle of wine. Excuse me, I said one more bottle of wine. God damn it.

    went here with a groupon with my husband. The place was pretty busy and the staff is super friendly. We were sat promptly and the waiter came right over and greeted us. Everything we had to eat and drink was GREAT!. I got the scallops w/ sunchoke puree + arugula. I loved it!! We ordered some martinis and they are so cute and fun and come with little surprises in the glass. I got a fruitty tropical one and it had a gummy shark in it because it was blue. After using the groupon we were so pleased with everything we have already been back for a few cocktails and plan to come again soon!!! I def. recommend this place for a fun evening out!!

    The first time I went to West End Grill, a strange sandwich on the menu peaked my interest. I've tried to convince people of how good it is, but it's a hard sell. Yes, it is hard to believe that the PPB&J would be good. That stands for portobello, peanut butter, and grapes (not exactly jelly). The mushroom was somehow encrusted with peanut butter (which seems like a magical feat to me) and the grapes had a balsamic vinegary bite to them. Be brave! Try it! I wish their website was a little better. It appears to basically only be front page with their business info. No menu, so I can't use it as a cheat sheet to talk about the salmon I had their the next time went. I can tell you that it was really good, cooked perfectly, and involved a bed of brussels sprouts (one of my personal favorites). Their hummus plate is also excellent and comes with toasted pistachios on top. I'm really glad more restaurants are making use of those little green nuts lately. The West End Grill is located next to a theater, so the first time I went, people were exiting the theater through the dining room and the next time, while sitting outside, very costumed people kept walking by, which was pretty entertaining. The prices are really decent and a meal there seems to cost a bit less than you expect it to, which is always a good thing.

    I never ever get tired of this place. The sandwiches, the fries, the appetizers, the drinks...you get the point. They're all good! Their porkchops are amazing as well. I've never had a bad conversation when sitting at the bar by myself and the staff is friendly. I used to come here often during breaktime from nearby SOL Lounge...the staff always wanted me to bring back something from this place. :)

    We had a pleasant evening at the West End Grill even though I read some very negative reviews before we went. The staff was attentive- gave us a tour of the theatre next door with information on the upcoming season which we didn't know existed but now we plan to attend. Dinner was Great! Our friends had the special pasta which was a little spicey, but overall very good. I had a huge portion of trout which was well prepared, moist and tasty. The Blackberry Cobbler was a perfect dessert, even though we split it 4 ways it was just enough! The Ravioli sounded great, but they were out of it. We'll have to go back and try it another time.

    I love this place! It's about 200 steps from my front door, about 320 steps on the way back though. (Jameson makes me walk sideways sometimes) Try the Pork Chop with Sweet Potato Gnocchi! GREAT food, very fair prices, great staff.

    Full disclosure... We have not eaten a full meal here. We had the fried polenta and it alone was worth coming back for. We have been here a few times for drinks and once for app's and drinks. We love this place. It's attached to a theater and has a very ecclectic, and sophisticated menu. The atmosphere is classy yet unpretentious. I had to say that so I feel like I'm getting paid for this... I'm not. Long story short... it's a great place for a happy hour or to meet for a date. Try it out. The only reason it got 4 stars is because we haven't eaten enough to make that call. Enjoy...

    My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place a little while ago and have been back several times since then. We always sit at the bar, and have had some great conversations with the bartenders. All the staff have been truly wonderful and the service is just attentive enough without being intrusive. Everything I've tried has been delicious and reasonably priced for what seems like fairly fancy food (forgive me if I'm not a gourmand). I've loved the trout and salmon, as well as some of the fish specials. The boy tends to be a light eater, but practically INHALED the tuna! Even the crab cakes, which I tend to judge a little harshly as I'm from the Chesapeake Bay region, were pretty damn tasty! They also have a Pub Club (free to join), where you earn points for the dollars you spend. They match your points in a donation to a local charity (you pick from a list when you sign up), and you earn free drinks or food. I was surprised at how quickly we earned a free drink or dessert!

    Went there for dinner. Had the pork special with a orange chili glaze. It was delicious. Very basic place. Love the location. Easy to find parking on a Saturday night. Didn't have anything from the bar, but the bar looks amazing. They had a great setup for the tv and music. It look like they were using an Apple TV to run their music & tv. The service was great. I would definitely recommend any one to have dinner at the West End Grill & Pub.

    This won't be a complete review since we came here on July 4th when they were serving a limited menu. They had some BBQ and sandwiches for their holiday menu. THE RIBS WERE DELICIOUS!!! They had a dry spicy rub on the outside and served with some hot BBQ sauce, and the ribs themselves were juicy and tender. I was told that they had the best fries around and they did not disappoint! I am def going to come back and try their regular menu.

    Update 06/04/10 Whatever the price ... to go from a $4.95 caesar salad to a $15.95 side salad size with a piece of salmon ... ridiculous. I fully acknowledge salmon could be more expensive than chicken. That was never discussed ... I didn't order chicken. If you charged for the regular salmon plate ... where was the rest of that plate? To not have any way to add chicken, salmon, steak, etc to a salad ... seems your ordering systems need some updating. Main point being - your approach toward the conversation ... immediately argumentative and defensive toward my question, rather than accomodating or compromising is a poor way to treat a customer. When I wanted the argument to end and just pay the amount, you continued to argue with me. Run your business how you'd like. I will never be back and have since heard from friends about many other poor experiences there. As you said that night, you'll do fine without my business ... very good, but it speaks volumes about how you conduct your establishment.

    I'm new to the Gaslight Square / CWE area and I went here a couple weeks ago with my brother and girlfriend. This is about the only restaurant in the former Gaslight Square neighborhood, but it doesn't disappoint. I thought it'd simply be a pub/bar, but its much more than that. There is a nice seating area on the outside sidewalk with covered tables and a relatively quiet street. When you walk in you're greeted to a normal (though not grungy) bar area. However, this opens up into a very quiet and nice dinner seating area on another side of a wall. We were seated promptly and the waiters were excellent. They even opened up the doors to the Gaslight Theater, a small performance area attached, when we asked to see it even though it was closed. They did all they could and more to try to give us information about upcoming shows. We ordered double-baked potato skins to start, which were delicious but the plate size was fairly small. My brother and I each had a different burger, mine being the house specialty, and both agreed that they were perfectly done. Delicious! My girlfriend's meal was some sort of sandwich, but she also enjoyed it. Overall we loved the atmosphere and thought the food was fantastic. Our only complaint was the price. Everything was much more expensive than I expected, which resulted in us only getting burgers rather than full meals. That being said, for a really nice dinner it might be perfect. What's more, the waiters definitely sold us on their weekend brunch. We will be back!

    Tucked away on the edge of the CWE on Boyle, this spot feels like a part of the neighborhood. It's rumored to have a great happy hour and brunch, but we tried it for dinner. Hungarian Goulash and Mussels both delivered as exceptional eats. Atmosphere is great as well- the space is broken into a dining room and a more casual bar room. There's also an outdoor patio for warmer months. We'll be back to try out one of their numerous Happy Hour specials.

    Next door to a theater, it's no surprise the place is decorated with autographed theater programs from places like The Old Vic in London (Jack Lemmon is one of the autographs). The place looks like a proper dark-wood-quiet-hum-of-conversation pub. I've seen a variety of people from semi-formal dress to jeans and t-shirt. Check out the specials. I haven't gone wrong yet choosing one of those. From the menu, I recently had the Sonoma Steak. It is really good. They know how to cook it to your specifications here. It was one of the best "medium"s on a steak that I've seen a place put out. Served atop a tasty version of mashed potatoes, and this meal is just right.

    I went to the West End after the symphony last night. The first thing I noticed was an ad for some "She's finally legal 21 year party/charity" bearing a skeezy looking woman on the poster. It was not the best first impression for the couple accompanying us, who are both just as conservative about public skeeze. We were greeted by a nice fellow who had the aweful job of telling us what they were out of, which turned out to be leeks, arugula, feta cheese, and trout. Luckily only the leeks affected me since they are on the Sonoma Steak. We started off with mussles with a green curry sauce, a trademark item, I now understand why they would highlight this particular selection. They were delightful. The trip was worth it just for the mussles. For an entree I had the Sonoma Steak plate. Its a quality cut of beef over horseradish potatoes, fried squash, blue cheese and fried leeks (when they are stocked). The steak was tender and delicious, but overshadowed by the wonderful potatoes. I enjoyed the meal, but for $19 the portion was a bit small. My fiancee' ordered a healthy portioned mahi mahi plate with a delightful rizzoto, I believe her meal was quite a bit better than mine, and more filling. Dessert was their signature peach cobbler. I was in the mood for a chocolate dish, but comprimise was the name of the game, and we ordered the peach cobbler with tahitian vanilla ice cream. I was not particularly impressed by the peach cobber, but my girl really liked it, so I will inject her opinion in this review. (She's a nurse, so its a funny joke.) I will definitely go back another day, maybe to see a show before dinner. Its a charming little spot in the Central West End. Give it a try and see what you think. :)

    Great bartenders, atmosphere, drinks, all local beers on tap... But the best part is the food! Don't miss the daily specials, especially the pasta. The cooks are humble but AMAZING. The quality and amount of food/meal you get for the price is generous. If you come frequently, consider getting a club card, they a % donate to charity of your choice and you can earn free drinks & meals :) The BRUNCH is phenomenal, you won't regret it! Salmon omelet is divine. Great for dinner, late dining too. Happy hour is a steal. Mussels are the best I've ever had. And my out-of-state guests still talk about the cobbler (flavor rotates weekly)... it's to die for! Worth getting diabetes someday, I will if I keep eating it ;) I can't stay away from that cobbler, topped with cinnamon vanilla ice cream... yum. If you want a smaller (adult) dessert, try coffee ice cream with Kahlua or Frangelica over the top. So good! Monday night trivia is fun. Any night of the week is good really, come as you are. Just go!!!

    The atmosphere in this bar was unexpectedly nice. The happy hour snack was good. The meal I ordered on Friday, October 18th was AWFUL. I ordered the ribeye steak and it was so tough and grizzly that I couldn't cut the steak with the steak knife provided. I do not think I was actually served a ribeye, but rather a really low cut of meat. It was cooked well, but the parts that I could eat were flavorless. Please don't waste your money on a steak at this place.

    Well, where do I begin? West End Grill and Pub (WEGAP) is one of St. Louis' best kept secrets. From the people who run the place to the fantastic food and wine list, this place is top notch. I've been a regular at this place for almost two years, and it keeps getting better and better. WEGAP is one of those places where the staff actually knows your name and legitimately cares how you're doing when they ask you. You're hard pressed to find a better place to drop by and grab a drink. The menu at this place is phenomenal. This includes brunch, lunch, and dinner. If you do brunch on the weekend, I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy. The gravy is made with chorizo, which gives it a unique spicy flavor. I've had most of the items on the brunch menu, and have not been disappointed once. They once had Lobster Benedict as a special item. To this day, it's the best brunch I've ever had. For dinner, I recommend the Hungarian Goulash. Chef Pablo is actually part Hungarian, and recommended I try it when it was a special item. A+. It has since been added to the everyday dinner menu. It's a large amount of food, so be prepared to take your leftovers home if you're not very hungry. Regardless, TRY IT. All in all, I love this place. Great ambiance, great people, great drinks, great food. If you haven't yet, give it a shot.

    Our group came here for dinner and it seemed like there was 1 server, so service was slow amongst the entire restaurant. They have good alcohol selections. Friends got a myriad of meals but the mussels were apparently good, the steak was good, and my chicken sandwich was also good. I would recommend if you're close. Apparently their brunch is also good.

    Can't go wrong with anything here but I'm telling you the mussels are out of this world. Be warned they are spicy though and I'd you are not cool with the heat try something else. This that love spice, heat and lots of flavor, look no further. Order it with a side of bread as you want to sop up all the juices as you don't want to leave a drop behind. It's bowl licking goodness. I wish I could pay the chef for his secret recipe but he's holding tight to this one. My friends and I like to try and guess the ingredients every time we stop in.

    sunchoke puree, turnip .. bits. I can't believe i haven't been here before! What a hidden gem. Someone had recommended this place to us a few months ago but I thought, no way i'm walking that far out of my way, esp not in the wrong/sketchy direction. I'll feel differently in the summer but for now its def well worth the short drive. Service is absolutely terrific - A+++++ - attentive, polite, helpful, unobtrusive and not overbearing, over chatty, pesky or meddlesome. It can get a bit chilly in the dining room so dress accordingly.

    The owner of WEG&P messaged me saying that he had addressed the below-mentioned deficiencies in service. I promised I would go back to reevaluate. My findings can be summed up as: marked improvement. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a waitress who was incredibly attentive throughout the entire meal. The dining room was lively and she had a lot of tables, but that didn't prevent her from making sure my party had everything we needed. WEG&P is off the blacklist and I'm looking forward to going back and sampling the happy hour specials.

    I'm just gonna go ahead and throw my two cents on top of everybody else's pile of two cents and tell you that the mussels at this place are fantastic. Not so much the mussels themselves (which are good), but the green curry sauce that they come with. Be warned that this sauce is spicy - you're gonna want to have something on hand to cool your happy, happy tastebuds down. My friends and I have started trying the sauce on everything else that we order - shrimp tacos, fried polenta, empanadas (that particular combo I wouldn't recommend). If you're here and can tolerate spicy, you really should try them. Our first exposure to the happy hour here was bizarre and unpleasant. When we came for the first time, our server asked us if we'd like to sit in the bar or the restaurant. We were a group of five and the tables in the bar only seat four, so we said restaurant. It wasn't until we'd be seated and given water that we were told that the happy hour special only applies to the tables in the bar, to increase bar usage? We actually moved to a table at the bar and pulled up a chair for the fifth person, but the whole thing seemed utterly bizarre to me. We ordered exactly the same thing we would have if we'd been seated in the restaurant. Can someone explain the logic of this to me? Also, while I'm going on about pet peves: if you're going to list "bread and butter service" for 50 cents, make it an actual "service." You actually get one piece of bread and butter. "Service" implies multiple, if not unlimited, pieces of bread. I honestly don't mind paying for it, but just call it "bread and butter." Anyway, the happy hour specials are great - discounted wine, beer, and martinis, along with half-price appetizers. So far all of the drinks we've tried have been good, especially the Passion Martini. The half-off appetizers is the real deal here, since you can easily make a meal out of sharing several appetizers. The empanadas are very tasty, though I'd recommend asking for BBQ sauce on the side since they're pretty messy. I thought the shrimp tacos were bland, and the avocado on top had a distinct several-day-old flavor, but a bit of sriracha brightened them up nicely. The fried polenta is quite good and veggie-friendly, with a wonderful creamy dill sauce on the side. Despite a few annoying things, this place is one of my new favorite restaurants. The great specials and delicious food make up for the minor problems.

    Visited St. Louis and wanted an authentic "city" place to eat lunch and, wow, is this place great. I highly recommend the West End Grill & Pub for lunch anytime. It is just so rich in atmosphere and city life around it. The menu is varied and I had salad with chicken and it was absolutely wonderful. My dining companion had the soup and a salad and commented that there was no cook, but the place had a great chef working there. I totally agree with the high reviews on food here and strongly recommend this as an outstanding place to bring visitors from out of town or if you are passing through and want someplace good to eat, try it, you will love it. Being from Chicago, I expect a lot and this delivered. I look forward to coming back next time I am in St. Louis anmd see more of this neighborhood.

    My friends and I went here for happy hour yesterday. We went because we heard the happy hour had half off appetizers! :D It was very exciting. We got a lot of the appetizers: mussels, twice baked potato skins, shrimp tacos, empanadas, and chicken satay. The chicken satay was just grilled chicken and not very flavorful. However, we dipped it in the sauce that came with the mussels and it was DELICIOUS. The empanadas had too much bbq sauce underneath, but it was tasty and crispy and had a wonderful filling. The twice baked potato skins were tasty but didn't have as much bacon as I hoped. The shrimp tacos were tasty too, but small and I hoped for a little more flavor. However, all the fairly tasty but not perfect food was worth it for the mussels. The mussels were tender and tasty. They were all nicely opened and the curry sauce they came with was really good. It was a bit salty but I was OK with it because I love salt. I devoured most of a plate by myself and then ordered another. In the end, even though we ordered 4 things, we payed less than 10 dollars each (after tax, before tip). I highly recommend this place for happy hour. The drinks are fairly cheap too, even if we didn't get any so I can't say much about them.

    Great Neighborhood spot. IMHO the best mussels in STL, especially since Taste in the CWE hasn't been serving them. (July '12) For brunch get a horsey Bloody Mary and the Slinger Sliders with GRAVY subbed for the chili. New breakfast potatoes with corn were good, like they hadn't been sitting on the griddle since the cold war.

    Good food (except one thing...see last paragraph...I'll let you know when you get there). Great, friendly service. Wonderful ambiance. I've had a number of lunches there and will continue to go back. It's one of those dim (walls are painted groovy dark red) quiet places hooked by an inner door to the theater next door. The staff are very pleasant. They're happy to help you choose a wine by bringing a few tastes out. Sarah is the embodiment of beauty, grace and charm. The food is not exciting, but quite edible. Go ahead and try the dang PPB&J. I know it sounds strange, but it really is a pleasant dish. I've eaten it four times. The smoke in the bar, through which you enter, does not penetrate the dining area. You've come to the last paragraph!! These is one thing on the menu which will shock and astound you The mussels. They are head and shoulders above any others that I have eaten anywhere. The mussels themselves are high-quality...plump. The sauce...ah, the sauce...spicy and rich...I wish I could describe it more fully. Go thou, to this humble pub, for the mussels.

    We went to the West End Grill and Pub to see our friends in a burlesque show. The bar / venue is nice and spacious. The staff is friendly and though they ran out of the Boulevard IPA shortly after I got there, their on tap list had a good enough selection that I wasn't disappointed. The only disappointing thing about the West End Grill & Pub was the drinks are a little pricey. They're not outrageously priced, just a little more than I'm accustomed to spending for the same beers elsewhere.

    Interesting place. We came here for brunch with another couple. They ordered the cinnamon rolls and the biscuits and gravy. I didn't try either one but they were raving about it. The biscuits and gravy were curious since they came out with some sort of beef or pork mixed with the gravy. It looked more like chili cheese biscuits... It didn't say anywhere on the menu that it would anything other than 'biscuits and gravy' so I would think a vegetarian would be screwed ordering that... My boyfriend ordered something called 'slinger sliders' which he loved. It was something like a fried egg, black beans, and random chili things on a biscuit. I ordered buttermilk pancakes since I was craving it for a while, and I was a bit surprised to find them mostly burnt (on the side facing down) and instead of real syrup, only one small packet of it to go with 3 pancakes. I liked the place much less when the waitress kept giving me dirty/exasperated looks when I asked for another packet of syrup. Everyone at the table agreed that 1 would not be enough, geez. Way to make me feel fat, lady! Overall, my dish was pretty bad. I took 2 of the pancakes home but when we had them for an afternoon snack, my bf and I thought they tasted oddly sour and ended up just throwing them away. But 3 stars since the rest of the group enjoyed their meals! I'd still rather go to the Rooster or Scape for brunch.

    Nicole - waitress William - owner Headed over to the West End Grill and Pub since we had a Groupon. We've read a lot of great reviews so we were eager to check it out. Today was Sunday so they had a Brunch menu until 3pm. We started off w/ a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa. The place wasn't too busy 'cept at the bar where a friendly bunch were gathered around watching the soccer game. Our waitress, Nicole was very attentive and friendly and answered a lot of our questions about what to get. We ordered a pear salad which consisted of arugula with caramelized pears and a light dressing....VERY yummy! This was a good size to split for us. Next we ordered the Mushroom, Swiss burger (med) which came with fries. Now I am not a big fan of fries and normally just munch a few....but these fries are SOOOO AMAZING!! They are crispy and sorta melt in your mouth. Similar to Zips (remember Zips?) but not greasy at all. I could eat a lot of them. The burger was very good with a perfect amount of seasoning....the bun was also very moist w/o being overly dry like some. We also ordered a dessert of these peanut butter raviolis....they are coated w/ powder sugar and come with a bowl of coffee ice cream. These are VERY dangerous and I am still thinking about them as I type this....(it is currently 2:15AM). During our meal the owner, William...stopped by our table and said hi and gave us info about the Gaslight theater....which we plan on attending in Oct. This was a WONDERFUL meal and we highly recommend this place. We'll be back again for Brunch and later for dinner as well! Check out my photos if you'd like to see what our meal looked like.     Holy mussels. Seriously. Erika K is a mussels fiend. We usually go to the Schlafly Tap Room for mussel, but not anymore. These mussels were amazing! They were plump with only one not opened. They green curry sauce was pretty incredible. Not a traditional green curry as there was no coconut but a thinner garlicky, gingery sauce with green curry tones. I almost asked the server for a spoon it was so good. Erika K and I are trying a primal diet, which exclude a lot of restaurant staples. A quick flip through the groupons and we stopped on the West End Grill because we can eat a lot of stuff there. I got the pork porterhouse. It was one of the better pieces of pork I have put in my mouth. The server really stumped me when I ordered by asking how done I would like it. He suggested medium, I would maybe go a little rarer as it was dry in some places. The braised kale that sat beneath it was pretty good too. Kind of vinegary and bacon-y. It complemented the pork well. The only thing weird was the sweet potato gnocchi. It was fried and kind of hard, negating the pillowy fluffy texture usually associated with gnocchi. Erika enjoyed the salmon she ordered. I had a Brussels sprout and it was lemony but a tad over cooked. She also had a turnip purée that was just OK. I didn't try the fish because it's not for men. Service was good as was atmosphere, even considering it was mostly full of old people eating before a show at the Gaslight Theater. Three and a half stars. If the price came down a little it would easily be 4.

    Came here with the Groupon. My friend & I started off with the shrimp tacos-- with their flour tortilla and lettuce topping, they were deceivingly bland-looking. One bite and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were actually quite zingy and delicious. Also got the scallops w/ sunchoke puree + arugula. Everything on the plate was perfect and scrumptious. Ended with the blackberry cobbler, which was served hot and topped with a generous scoop of ice cream. The fruit part was a bit seedy for my liking but the texture really didn't detract from the taste. I really really really wish I had another Groupon to this place...

    After studyimg the menu, I wasn't sure the burgers would be as good as advertised. That burger was amazing. One of the better I've had in St. Louis. The fries were great as well. The twice baked potatoe skins were good, but they took so long we didn't get them until we had started on our burgers. The service was really good. Quick and knowledgable staff make this a great place for dinner. I will make it a point to come back and try the rest of the menu.

    I can't sing the praises of this place enough. I have only gone there twice but each time I am totally impressed with the menu, chef, wait staff, blackberry sangria! I had the pan seared trout and it was delicious. My husband had the Tuna...delicious, my son had the porterhouse...incredible but what was the dish that I will certainly get next time is the Brick chicken! Best food ever! Michael..our waiter was so patient, conversational, funny and impressed my 7 year old grandson. He was awesome. I love the atmosphere, location, food, staff, drinks!! One thing, I love the sangria with a blackberry on the top and didn't get it. That's no biggie since that drink is the most tasty, refreshing thing I've had in St. Louis or anywhere. Oh, and the curry mussels are delicious. I could take a bath in that sauce! :-)

    I need a drink. Of water. All the salt is drying up my insides. So, I actually liked this place for it's casual yet kinda classy ambiance and would definitely stop in for a cocktail but the food failed to impress me. Everything was SOOO salty. To be fair, I dislike salty food so I had the bf taste everything and he agreed it was salty (he likes salty food). To start we had the roasted garlic hummus with veggies and added pita for 50 cents which made it a total of $7. The hummus was good and had a nice consistency. It was garlicky and the topped it with crumbled pistachios. However, it was way too salty and the broccoli it came with seemed like it had been cooked which was odd as the carrots and celery were raw. The bf ordered the Sundried Tomato Pesto Encrusted Salmon - $16.95. It came with citrus couscous and spinach. He said the couscous was good but salty and it looked a bit over done, to me. The fish was fine but bland and I wouldn't say it was encrusted but rather topped with pesto. I ordered the Skinny Plate - $8.95 and added shrimp for $4.50. It came with brown rice, veggies, and black eyed pea salad. The rice was over cooked and way too salty. The veggies were over cooked, overly seasoned, and way too salty. The black eyed peas salad was tasty but there was maybe a table spoon full of it on my plate and wait for it, way too salty. The shrimp was cooked well and overall pretty tasty. I doubt I would eat here again except for checking out their brunch. I mean I would avoid it like the plague but I wouldn't request it or seek it out. However, it might be worth checking out, if you like salt.

    Very good food and atmosphere, mediocre service. Had brunch with a friend at WEGAP for the first time today. We were promptly seated by a hostess when we entered but waited a few minutes before server showed up. Brunch menu had a lot to offer between a selection of sandwiches and traditional breakfast food. I went for a cinnamon roll as a starter and steak bendict, friend ordered an omlette and a half order of biscuits and gravy. Server came by a couple times to refill water but forgot our coffee and brought everything out at once rather than the cinammon rolls first. Nothing really off-putting but given that it wasn't super crowded and the hostess didn't seem very busy it was kind of strange. Food tasted great. Steak was cooked just how I ordered, potatoes were well-seasoned, and cinnamon roll was deliciously fluffy and gooey. Overall good experience, service was just a little slow though.

    Our go-to neighborhood spot for a sit down burger and a beer. The burgers are thick and juicy, and they have a great beer selection. More recently discovered their brunch! Mmmmmm!!! They do a good Bloody Mary, and the eggs Benedict is spot on. Not something I'd drive across the city for, but a great neighborhood spot.

    West End Grill advertises that it wants to be a bar with class and culture, and boy do they do a good job. Environment 5/5: Most bars have a certain feel to it: dimly lit and that smell of grease and booze. West End Grill on the other hand breaks away from this stereotype and actually creates an environment where I can see taking a girl on a date to. The place is dimly lit and actually separates the main dining room from the bar which is nice if I want to take someone here to eat and not have to hear the ramblings of drunk people sitting at the bar. Also, each table has its own candle and some sort of decoration in the middle. This creates the perfect place for someone like me to either take a girl out for a nice date or to bring some friends over for a couple of drinks at the bar. Service 5/5: The service here is always good. My first few times here were way back in September 2013 and I have only recently frequented this place quite often a month back. The minute I walk through the door the bartender already knew my name and the beer that I always get here, and I had not come here for months! Such good service and amazing memory. Food 4/5: The food here is what I like to call classy bar food. They have the stereotypical food like burgers, sandwiches, and fries but they make them much better than any bar that I have been to. Their burgers are tender, juicy, always consistent, and cheap ($8). Besides the typical bar food they also have daily lunch and dinner specials. For example they have weekly mussel dishes that are always to die for and each week the sauce and garnish they cook their mussels with changes so you are never tired of their food. Overall 5/5: The environment and service are top notch as this is a bar that I am not afraid of taking a girl on a date to, and at the same time a perfect place for me and some of my "bros" to have a good Friday night at the bar. The food here is very good with the only complaint I have is variety. Definitely a place that I will regularly go to.

    This place is a great little gem in the Central West End. I've never had a bad meal here and the servers are very friendly. I would say that my favorite dinner entree here though is the chicken under the brick. It sounds relatively simple but it is one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had in St. Louis. Also, I'm not a big dessert person, but I can never resist their homemade cobblers. Every Monday night they also have a trivia contest. Great for a night out with friends!

    Tried it and really liked it. Great location in CWE on the north side of Lindell so you avoid the big crowds and parking issues. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinner and the upscale pub menu. Nice wine selection and those big, delicate wine glasses that make me feel fancy. My chicken entree was served with cornbread stuffing, green beans and a Jack Daniels pan sauce that was so good, I'd get it again and try something different on the third visit. We also tried the salads, salmon and pasta special which were all good. The server was friendly and efficient and if he had been more timely with drink refills, I'd have nothing to nitpick at all. A very solid four star experience.

    I stopped here for an early dinner with a small group on a Friday evening. From what I had, i left wanting to come back soon! The service was great! Our waitress was really friendly and super considerate, especially with warning us with common issues other customers have had. We had the mussels for an appetizer. It truly was the kind of dish that you would want to come back for. They were served on a spicy tomato based sauce. The mussels weren't too spicy and had tons of flavor. But boy was the sauce simply amazing! One of my friends wanted to save it to have with rice the next day - too bad there wasn't any left by the time we were through. For a main course, I had the orange Cajun shrimp. Our waitress warned me it is usually gets sent back because it's too spicy, but I still wanted it as is. When my dish came out, I was really glad I didn't ask for a mild version. Yes, the shrimp had a little kick to it, but it was served with rice and vegetables. If you were only eating the shrimp, it could easily have been too spicy. But with the rice, I personally wouldn't have minded if it were spicier. I can't remember what the others ordered, but it looked like everybody enjoyed their dishes. I loved having dinner here and I can't wait to come back soon - I highly recommend this place!

    We decided to hit up a CWE happy hour spot and chose WEGAP for the Thursday night special - oysters! Drinks were discounted and the oysters on the half shell were $1 each. We had the steak sandwich and the WEGAP burger for our mains, both were delicious. The fries and slaw that came as sides were both large and tasty. Nolan, our server, was excellent. He told us about all the specials, suggested a beer for me and was patient in taking our orders. He was never far away and let us know that happy hour was ending soon so we could make another drink order. Thanks Nolan! We'll definitely be back!

    We were an hour early to an event at the Cathedral so we googled a nearby bar to kill time- I am so happy that fate brought us here. The drinks were good, the bartenders FANTASTIC, and we even came back after our event for dessert and a second round of drinks. We had a fabulous time and plan on returning soon, especially since we signed up for their rewards card. Seems like the perfect place to bring visiting parents, in-laws, etc.

    The bf and I came here for brunch. Ordered the gambler's eggs/breakfast cheese scramble - when it arrived, it looked like a puree of an omelet with a clump of cheese on top. Eeek- and the bf HATES cheese. The bf's always shy about sending food back, but once I brought it up, our waiter made it right after we asked. My food was awesome - the pancakes were delicious, and the cinnamon roll was so good: not too sweet, really fluffy, and the glaze also was perfectly sweet and definitely made me seriously contemplate having another. It was a nice brunch spot, and I'll probably try it for happy hour in the future.

    I've been in St Louis for a year and a half now, having moved here from California. I now live in Clayton. So my bar is kind of high when it come to quality food/wine. In St Louis there are so many choices, that you really have to be very good to get repeat business. With that said, I love this place. I have never been dissatisfied with the food or wine. The Chicken Under the Brick is phenomenal. Tasty, perfectly cooked, just all around awesome. Wine is served at a very decent price for the quality. I love the ambiance. Whether you're in the mood to watch a game at the bar or dine at a private table, the atmosphere just works. And the best part of the place? The service. I have been there several times and each time the wait staff has been outstanding. Friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. We always feel welcome there. West End Pub and Grill is my favorite "go to" restaurant for all around great food and superb service.

    I came here for an early dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised that the bar section, which was a little loud, was separate from the dining section. Although service was a little slow our waters were always full; we did have to wait a while to place our orders though. Our appetizer, the chicken flatbread, was just okay, and a little dry. There was nothing special about it and nothing terrible about it. Now the entrees, on the other hand; I got the chicken under a brick which was absolutely DELICIOUS. It was swimming in salt which was the only downside, I think I drank like three entire glasses of water and another two when I got home. However, the meat was tender and soft, the cornbread stuffing was perfection, and the green beans at least made me feel like I was trying to be healthy like a little bit. It was enough food for two meals which I was more than happy about (less grocery store trips!), and I of course wanted to try dessert too. I got the chocolate cake with ice cream to go, and devoured it ASAP as soon as I got home. Probably the best cake I've had in a while. I want to go back to try some of their other stuff, based on this experience I'm excited to try more!

    This place is a great little spot in the CWE! It's perfect when you need to go somewhere casual for a drink, or if you want to enjoy a good meal in a laid-back atmosphere. The bartenders are awesome, drinks are strong, and food is above average! Last time I went in I just wanted Patron XO on the rocks and no one judged me (which can occasionally happen.) What can I say? The girl likes her tequila. This place seems to do everything well in the food department, from brunch all the way through late night dinner. They have seafood, steaks, chicken dishes, sandwiches, etc... and really, any place I can enjoy something like sundried tomato pesto crusted salmon while drinking well drinks at the bar is A-OK with me. Come back the next morning for biscuits and gravy... in which they offer a vegetarian version as well, among a ton of other choices. Look forward to stopping by West End Grill many more times in the future!

    This is my first time visiting St. Louis and thank GOD for using Yelp as the vessel for me to find this place! I had the Chicken on the Brick...and it was out of this World!! My taste buds are still singing their praises. My friend had the Orange Cajun Shrimp and he loved it too. Do yourself a favor and grab a bite and something to drink here!

    I came to WEGAP a couple years ago on a Groupon and was absolutely wowed by the amazing mussels. My friend and I kept expressing how surprised we were by the nearly empty dining room. Ever since then, we've been meaning to return for another taste of the mussels, and to support a business without a groupon (yay!). On our return visit recently, we realized that the Monday night special was a $25 three-course dinner. You could pick items from several categories (soup, salad, app, entree, dessert, wine). Of course, we were overjoyed and got the deal. The mussels were as delicious as we remembered, spicy and plump (though several were on the very small side). I got the scallops as an entree, and my friend got the blackened ribeye. My scallops were lovely and the risotto that came with it was divine. However, my friend's ribeye was extremely chewy and tough and he was very disappointed by the vegetable/mayonnaise mush that came with it. The dessert special was a bacon waffle, which was extremely disappointing as we could not taste the bacon at all. When the bill came, surprise!! Every single thing we had ordered had come with a $1 - $8 dollar upcharge, even though it was not mentioned anywhere on the menu! The extra additions meant that the deal was essentially the same price as if we had just paid regular price! When we balked at the price, our really great waitress went back and fixed it with the manager. It was super nice of her to do that, but we really were shocked by the underhandedness of adding to the price of every item! Overall, still a good experience and the mussels will keep us coming back. However, if you do the pick 3 deal, make sure you ask if there's a surcharge for what you're ordering. I would probably have given 3 stars, but everyone was so nice and the mussels really are spectacular, so I bumped it up to 4.

    Okay the bf and I ate here - finally! Its really not located in the 'hub' of the CWE, but its close enough to be in an area where you don't have to fight for parking but yet, you can park, get in, and enjoy the atmosphere. I liked the food here and our drinks weren't bad either. GG and Cranberry for me! LOL. Crab Cakes were good too. I just enjoyed being here and the bartender was attentive. This may be my great little hideaway when the weather gets colder. I will be back!

    I have to give WEGAP(West End Bar and Grill) five stars because it is consistently good. I also like that they have specials every night to choose from. Certain nights are also special, i.e. Oyster night. We started with the Fried Cauliflower with truffle oil. The cauliflower is lightly breaded and was delicious. I could make a meal of it. Our entrees were the Shrimp and Sausage kabobs with rice and beans, and the Filet special of the night with potatoes and broccoli. The filet was cooked to order and was quickly eaten by John (the hubby). The kabobs were delicious. The rice and beans were a little spicy but I didn't have any problem eating them. Other dishes tried by us have been the mussels, steak sandwich and the tuna ( no longer on the menu). You can also have a pre show dinner before going next door to the theater. Check out their once a month wine dinner.

    I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. It was an interesting crowd, the bar side was filled with Blues fans who were really loud and into the game and on the other side where the dining room is was a lot of elderly couples. A solid mix of ages, mean must have been somewhere in the 35 year old range I'm guessing!? All joking aside, I just didn't realize that the restaurant was connected to the theatre next door and many people had come there to eat ahead of time. We picked this place because the menu looked intriguing! They were out of our first appetizer, but we were able to get the shrimp and grits which was so tasty! I had a burger and my friend had the steak medallions. The burger might have been the greasiest burger I have ever had (obviously grease = deliciousness) but it was a big messy to eat and my bun was so doused in greasy ooze that it was basically falling apart before I could eat it. The steak medallions came with fried zucchini fries and both were pretty good (based on the one bite I had) and had a lot of flavor. Overall, this place was ok, not sure if I'll be rushing back but it was a good meal.

    Brunch review -- Good basic brunch menu, my poached eggs were perfection in my eggs benedict. Breakfast potatoes were mediocre OK spices but cold and undercooked. Others in the party got steak benedict and steak egg tacos which looked tasty enough. Service was standard, but nothing special. Maybe our server wasn't a morning person, but she wasn't the bubbly, chatty type. Atmosphere -- I don't know, something about brunch in a pub is weird. I'd like to come back for dinner/drinks sometime or happy hour but I won't be rushing back for brunch.

    I've been meaning to review this place for years now. GREAT bar. The owner is a really nice guy, and the bartenders are great as well. The younger guy made perfect shamrocks into the foam if you order a Guinness, and the younger woman was very friendly as well. Their food was great, and as such, I would eat here a few times a month as I lived right down the street on Maryland Avenue. I've since moved away from Missouri, but this was one of my favorite places. Great combination of class, great menu, sports on the TVs, clientele, and staff.

    I had my first visit to this Grille last week and I have to say I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere! I ordered the flounder and it was delicious! It was a large portion of creatively prepared, and very fresh fish & accompaniments! Someone else ordered the meat loaf-it was a large portion and delicious!! The Grille is adorned with photos of the Gaslight Square performers and all the wood adds a very nice touch... It was a wonderful experience!! Beautifully presented, very tasty food and I won't hesitate to return again!! Every aspect of my experience was a positive one!!

    Wow the food was great and the service was fast. It's located in Central West End. It's very casual and laid back. They offer good drink specials and the food selection is pretty good as well. From steaks to to seafood. Prices are also very reasonable compared to other restaurants in CWE. I ordered mussels which were delicious and VERY GOOD. One plate wasn't enough for me but nonetheless they're very good. The peach cobbler was also delicious and almost had that home-style look/taste to it. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area. It's something casual for jeans and tee shirt kinda night. Enjoy

    It doesn't get much better than this neighborhood hotspot that has an extensive menu and excellent food. Their happy hour specials are amazing including oysters on Thursday, but get there early because they will run out. I am also a huge fan of their weekend brunch. It's an eclectic and impressive menu and like all the food I've had there - excellent. There are plenty of locals sitting around the bar and always a smattering of new patrons. If you don't want the bar feel and just sit in the attached dining room. It's never been too busy and I've been at all hours. My only gripe is what I consider a limited beer selection in terms of imports however I'm sort of a beer snob and my beer drinking friends say their draft selection is very good. They do have kettle one and ice tea so I can always get by. There is a cabaret theater attached with a respectable lineup that I'm looking forward to checking out. They also have a rewards program which net you some nice discounts. Sign up for their perks program and they won't blast you with too many emails but just enough. I'm pretty sure you get 20% or $20 off your next purchase after you sign up as well. And no need to carry your pretty plastic car just give them your phone number when you stop in for a cold one. There is always street parking available within a block and they have sidewalk seating for the warmer months. Go, you will be glad you did!

    The West End Grille is a great neighborhood bar and restaurant located on Boyle (a residential street, right next-door to Juniper) near the Central West End. The bar itself is casual with TV. It's a gathering place for locals who live in the neighborhood. The restaurant side has an upstairs theater (The Gaslight Theater) and is a great place to go for a night of food and entertainment. They serve great mussels, Sunday Brunch, and an upgraded menu for a neighborhood type restaurant and bar. It's not fancy, but it's solid and tasty. What I like about the West End Grille is that it is laid back and unpretentious, but you can still get good food, a broad selection of wines and liquor and they offer the occasional wine tasting dinners and other events in a casual environment. They also attract fun and friendly characters from the neighborhood, which always makes for a good time.

    Really enjoyed getting out of the lack of delicious, healthier foods in St. Charles County. Great location. Comfortable decor in the restaraunt. Dinner was very good. We each had a great soup and shared the chicken under the brick. Healthy and delicious. Wine selection could have been better. Skinless chicken would have made it 5 stars. Great evening out of the kitchen. We'll be back! And may check out the theater attached!!

    Decent experience. The food is pretty good, staff is friendly but service can struggle a little when crowded. Worth a try. WEGAP is nestled in a quiet side street next to the Gaslight Theater and a few other smaller shops. The outside is clean and hip with sidewalk tables against the large windowed store front. The inside set up is a little odd, with the front area being a little open and the bar set up in the middle of the room. Tables in the main room are oddly situated and spacing seems a little random. Not a real issue, it just struck me as odd when I walked in. My friend and I ordered brunch, getting biscuits & gravy, an omelet, steak benedict, and cinnamon rolls. The eggs had a good flavor and the potato seasoning and cheese in the omelet were on point. The gravy for the b&g's had an interesting flavor, not peppery like some gravy but quite oily. The cinnamon rolls were great - perfect amount of icing, slightly crisp outside and soft, moist inside. Overall, nothing blew me away but everything was satisfying. I was surprised at how the food was presented, though, based on others' pics from WEGAP. The eggs and extras looked like they were mixed together in a bowl and dumped on a cast iron grill with the burnt remnants of the last dish clinging to my eggs. Oh well, didn't affect the taste. When we went our service wasn't that great. Our server was fine, he was very friendly and tried to be helpful, but I'm pretty sure for the first half of our visit he was the only server for the enter restaurant. The hostess and bar tender were just sort of standing around while the server ran from table-to-table. Coffee is uber-important for my brunch so him forgetting to grab mine until after our food was brought out was a downer. From other reviews it seems likely that this is uncommon. Likely just an off day requiring one person to wait on everyone. I'll check this place out again for some dinner and update accordingly.

    Solid. I went here with a group of friends on a Sunday late morning trip for brunch/lunch. The brunch options all looked tasty and reasonably priced. I opted for the French toast w/melon salad (which came with hash browns like the other items under this part of the menu) and was happy with my dish ($6.95 for 3 full slices). Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food (crab cake eggs benedict, some kind of omelette, mimosas) as well. The atmosphere was nice, not too noisy or busy, and the service was friendly and attentive. I also noticed that they left toothpicks in the restroom by the faucets/mirror, WHICH IS A GREAT IDEA, WHY DON'T OTHER RESTAURANTS DO THIS?

    Hip place on the outskirts of the CWE. The burgers are big and there are several specials each day. The layout is interesting with a half moon shaped bar as the focal point. I have never been here to sit at the bar but it looks conducive to drinks and story topping. The green curry mussels are quickly becoming one of the best dishes in St. Louis. There will always be more curry than mussels. *Pro Tip: Ask to get the extra curry to go and put it over your scrambled eggs in the morning. It will change your breakfast life forever. Attached is a theater and special are run every so often. Wednesday is steak night and who can argue with that promotion?

    9oz ribeye with blue cheese au gratin and bacon braised kale was out of this world! Steak was tender and moist and i enjoyed it down to the last drop! The passion fruit martini was strong and flavorful my favorite way to drink. I will be back again.

    Amazing!! started with the Mussels. The sauce was out of this world and we even asked the chef Pablo about the recipe and he said it 's a 2 page recipe. I understand that on Thursdays, they have Oysters that I would love to try sometime soon. Had a garden salad that was really good with the house dressing that is avocado-ranch.YUM. Moved on to the Pan seared trout with Butternut squash Risotto and it was amazing. Cooked perfect with the right amount of seasonings, it just could not have been better. My friend had the under the brick Chicken and I tasted it and would definitely order that as well. It had a real cold weather, comfort food taste to it. Service was wonderful, the feel of the place was cozy (we chose to sit in the bar area so we could catch the Blues game while we ate) and the Chef Pablo, a doll. - Found out about a night of eating and wine which is held on the last Tuesday of the month that we can't wait to go back for. - parking was curb parking, but got to park real close which was awesome. - -noticed a few tables out front, which when the weather warms up will be a nice place to sit and share some mussels and a cocktail.
